A man in his 30s was found stabbed to death and floating in the tank

A murder investigation was launched after a 30-year-old man was found in a tank with a stab wound to his chest.

A 50-year-old man with links to Cornwall has been arrested on suspicion of murder after his body was found in the Drift Service Reservoir near Penzance on Thursday.

Police were called to the scene when the man was spotted in the water in the afternoon.

Officers and paramedics performed CPR on the victim and discovered he had a stab wound to the chest.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have carried out inquiries in Cornwall and Warwickshire and are still trying to identify and locate the victim’s next of kin.

Detective Inspector Steve Hambly, from Devon and Cornwall Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “We are in the early stages of our investigation to establish the circumstances leading to this man’s death.

“Stage guards remain in place at locations in St Ives and Penzance while officers continue their enquiries, and they are expected to remain in place over the weekend.

“I am keen to hear from any members of the public who may have witnessed any suspicious behavior in the Drift Reservoir or Lelant area between Monday February 15 and Thursday February 18.”
