Suspect tries to ‘take control’ of ALEA patrol vehicle after Birmingham crash

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – An unidentified person involved in a crash Tuesday night attempted to take control of an ALEA patrol vehicle before being apprehended, according to ALEA Senior Constable Vu Quang.

At approximately 6:25 pm, an ALEA Highway Patrol Division trooper observed a two-vehicle accident blocking the road near the 1700 block of Tallapoosa Street in Birmingham.

According to Quang, while the ALEA Police were investigating the accident, one of the drivers involved in the accident tried to take control of the trooper’s patrol vehicle.

The officer was able to prevent the suspect from taking control of the patrol vehicle and the individual was arrested.

The suspect was then transported to UAB Hospital to be evaluated.

Criminal charges are currently pending.

The ALEA police officer involved was also transported to UAB Hospital for evaluation.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
