Aldi ‘sorry’ as customer finds ‘extra protein’ in breakfast cereal

An Aldi customer was left slightly nauseous after discovering a breakfast item in the breakfast room.

The shopper shared the photo – which appears to show a small pile among her chocolate cereal – on Facebook with the caption: ‘Choco hoops from Aldi with extra protein’, alongside a green face emoji.

The image comes after Aldi issued an urgent recall and refund notice for a food product sold in its stores which became the subject of a police investigation. The discount supermarket said a batch of tortilla wraps sold in its stores may have been contaminated with metal.

The image appears to show that the customer had already eaten most of his bowl of cereal before making the grim discovery. Aldi commented on the social media post, saying it was “sorry” for the customer’s “extra protein” found inside.

An Aldi spokesman said: “Hi, we’re sorry to see this. Please send us a PM (personal message) and a team member will contact you. Thank you.” But other Aldi shoppers were quick to comment and gave insight into the unwanted items they had also found inside the supermarket’s bargains.

Dee C-Brown commented: “The things I have found in Aldi UK food is a disgrace. Last time there was hard plastic in the fish fingers from the fishmonger,” and Amy Fell said: “I found plastic in them too. I did not buy. them ever since.”

An Aldi spokesman said: “Although very rare, incidents like this can occasionally occur if the packaging is damaged at any time before the product is consumed. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and encourage Ms Roberts to contact us.”
