Fabrizio Romano claims Liverpool can still sign £100m player and there is a ‘very positive feeling’

Liverpool are still waiting for the transfer window to really kick into life this summer.

Reds are often proactive in the early stages of a market opening. However, they have yet to make the first move.

However, with the summer internationals starting to draw to a close and the pre-season now nominally underway at the AXA Training Centre, things need to step up.

Liverpool’s squad isn’t perfect and could do with some minor tweaks from Arne Slot. What the new head coach and recruiting staff do between now and August 30 could shape the entire season.

Fortunately, it looks like the FSG transfer machine is slowly starting to kick into gear this summer.

It’s still a ‘possibility’ Liverpool could sign Anthony Gordon

Liverpool’s lack of transfer activity so far has not been due to a lack of potential players to sign.

As always, the rumor mill has spun and thrown up a host of names that could be on their way to Anfield under the right conditions.

One of the biggest links with the Reds in recent weeks has been Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon.

Gordon has reportedly had his head turned by Liverpool’s interest after they tried to capitalize on Newcastle’s financial woes at the weekend.

However, the Magpies ultimately held firm on the 23-year-old and sold several fringe players to cover the costs needed to be PSR compliant.

There’s still a long way to go in this summer’s window, though. And according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Gordon is still a “possibility” for Liverpool if the asking price drops.

“There is an absolute possibility,” the journalist told his Playback channel. “I would say it’s always possible if you make a big offer, yes. But Liverpool, when they had direct contact with Newcastle about Anthony Gordon in the last week, at that time, it was very difficult with Newcastle in financial fair play.

“Newcastle asked for big money and for Liverpool it was way too much,” adds Romano. “If there is a normal price, an acceptable price, Gordon remains a highly valued player and Gordon was keen to join Liverpool.

“There is a feeling between Anthony Gordon and Liverpool, that is very clear. A very positive feeling, but Liverpool will not pay completely crazy money. If Newcastle were to drop the price, it might be a possibility, but now they’ve sorted out their financial fair play issues, so that’s it at the moment.”

How Much Could Anthony Gordon Cost?

It has not yet been revealed how much Newcastle were looking to sell Gordon to Liverpool.

However, it was claimed the Magpies wanted to include Jarell Quansah in any deal. This was clearly a non-starter for the Reds.

Barring any potential player trades, it is difficult to judge how much Liverpool would consider to be fair value for Gordon.

There have been claims that Gordon could cost up to £100m to anyone trying to sign him. It seems like an impossible figure to reach.

However, with the former Everton winger having just two years to run on his contract at St James’ Park, the longer Liverpool wait, the further the asking price will drop.

As long as Gordon doesn’t commit to a new deal, perhaps Liverpool will begin to believe that his “positive feeling” can be turned into something tangible in the future.
