Residents at Lansdowne Care Home enjoyed a morning of tennis activities with Coles Green Tennis Club

Residents at Lansdowne Care Home in Cricklewood were delighted to join members of Coles Green Tennis Club for a morning of tennis activities to mark the start of the Wimbledon Championships.

As well as enjoying a coaching session from garden experts, the club ladies shared their tips for those to watch at Wimbledon this year and encouraged residents to share their own tennis experiences and memories of the game over the years.

Some residents recalled hearing Fred Perry win the men’s singles title for the third time on the radio in 1936 and seeing Dorothy Round win the women’s singles title in 1937, the first year the Championships were broadcast on television.

Resident Patrick said: “What a great morning. It’s been a long time since I picked up a tennis racket and it brought back many happy memories of playing in my youth.”

Care Home Magical Moments Coordinator Jyotsana Shrestha said: “A huge thank you to Coles Green Tennis Club for coming to Lansdowne Care Home, providing our residents with a wonderful morning of tennis activities. Over the next couple of weeks we will all gather in the lounge to enjoy strawberries and cream and a fizz or two together while watching all the action at Wimbledon.”

Lansdowne Care Home is in Claremont Road, Cricklewood, NW2 and provides nursing, dementia, respite, palliative and intermediate care.
