Adam Pope tells how Leeds feel about selling Glen Kamara this summer after Rennes showed interest

BBC journalist Adam Pope has shared an update on Glen Kamara’s future at Leeds United.

Kamara moved to Elland Road from Rangers on just a four-year deal last summer but has already been linked with a move following Leeds’ failure to win promotion.

Ligue 1 side Rennes are believed to be interested in the 28-year-old, who Leeds spent £5million on after months of speculation linking him with a move 12 months ago.

Rennes are likely to be on the lookout for a new midfielder this summer and Enzo Le Fee is close to joining AS Roma in a deal that could be completed in the coming days.

Reports in France have indicated that Kamara is someone Rennes are looking at as a potential replacement, although no official offer has yet been received.

Pope shares Leeds’ position on Kamara’s future this summer

Kamara established himself as a key player at Leeds last season and made 42 appearances in all competitions.

Leeds have already lost one midfielder this summer in Archie Gray and another departure would leave them desperately short in that area of the pitch.

Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev would be Leeds’ only recognized senior options in the center of the park, both mainly holding players and not really working alongside each other.

Kamara and Gray were Leeds’ most box-to-box players, and while none of that quartet managed to score a single goal in the regular season in the Championship, it would be a strange decision to let them both go away

And as such, BBC journalist Pope has confirmed that Leeds are not looking to sell Kamara this summer, despite interest from Rennes.

It will be interesting to see if that position changes if a decent offer comes in, but Daniel Farke and Leeds will be aware that some continuity is needed in the squad next season.

Leeds would be better off selling Ilia Gruev than Kamara

Of Leeds’ midfield options, Ampadu is one they simply cannot afford to lose given how impressive he was last season.

But if one were to leave, it would be wiser for Leeds to lose Gruev rather than Kamara amid Borussia Dortmund’s interest in the Bulgarian.

If Ampadu returns to midfield as expected next season, it’s likely that Gruev will once again play second fiddle as the partnership between the two just isn’t working.

Kamara and Ampadu together, on the other hand, is a much more balanced pairing.
