Wilfred Ndidi has offered himself to Celtic as a Leicester City hero interested in reuniting Brendan Rodgers’ transfer

Celtic have been offered the chance to sign former Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi.

The midfield star played under Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers when he was in charge at the King Power Stadium. And the champions were tipped on Monday night that Ndidi would be interested in moving to Glasgow to team up with Rodgers again.

Ndidi’s impressive displays in the Premier League once saw him linked with Manchester United and Real Madrid, but after helping the Foxes win promotion back to the top division, he was released. Signed by Leicester from Genk in 2017, Ndidi’s best football was played under the Northern Irishman. In April 2023, in an interview with the Leicester Mercury, Rodgers praised Ndidi saying: “He is obviously a player who has good athletic ability and works very hard.

“I always have that type of player, a clear player who controls the game. Sometimes, I’m a defensive guy like him who can really press the game and play simple, or sometimes, he’s a more creative player, a playmaker from the back. He has so much talent and was very impressive. It covers the ground so quickly. His anticipation is very good, he reads the game, he smells the danger and it’s very important to have that type of player there.”

Wages could be the major stumbling block to any deal and with Premier League clubs including Everton, Celtic may not be able to match the millions on offer across the border. But the chance of Champions League football could be a carrot for the Nigerian.

Celtic have previously monitored their situation and could be willing to make a splash for a man who was once valued at £52m by Leicester in 2021. In 2023, there were reports that Real Madrid were eyeing the midfielder for a holder role. , while United have shown a long-term interest in recruiting the Nigerian when he was showing his ability in the Premier League.
