What Jurgen Klopp said about the USA as former Liverpool boss is related to the return of management

Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been linked with a return to management to coach the United States.

With the Copa America currently being played across the pond in the US, the USMNT were hoping for a strong showing at the tournament, just two years before they, along with Mexico and Canada, host the 2026 World Cup.

What transpired, however, was a national embarrassment tour. Instead of getting out of their group, which included Uruguay, Bolivia and Panama, the USMNT finished in third place. While they won their opening match 2-0 against Bolivia, they lost 2-1 to Panama and went down 1-0 to Darwin Nunez’s Uruguay, seeing the tournament hosts knocked out of the competition.

Following the result against Uruguay, coach Gregg Berhalter was criticized for the USA’s performance in the Copa America, with fans calling for him to be fired.

And should US officials decide to fire Berhalter, they could try to pull off a major coup with their next appointment in the form of former Liverpool boss Klopp. In January, when the German announced he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of last season, it was reported by the Athletic that Klopp would consider a move to international management to coach Germany or possibly the USMNT.

While Klopp saw exhaustion as a reason to leave the away leg at Anfield in May, the chance to coach at a World Cup with a significantly reduced fixture schedule until 2026 could appeal to the former Reds boss, who spoke warmly. in the past about America during Liverpool’s pre-season trips to the US.
