Latest data for M6 Warrington to Wigan overnight resurfacing

National Highways has announced the latest dates for the overnight closure of the M6 ​​starting tonight, Wednesday July 3, as it works to complete resurfacing as part of the Warrington to Wigan upgrade.

The company is adding additional emergency zones, new technology and one lane in each direction on the motorway between junction 21a and junction 26. It is also resurfacing all four lanes of the carriageway on sections of the route between Croft and Orrell junctions.
Most of the day’s work on the project has now been completed with overnight work continuing to install gantry signs, other signs and the resurfacing of what will be the new lanes two and three of the freeway.

Due to the scale of equipment required for the resurfacing, there will be a series of overnight road closures between 9pm and 6am over the next few weeks:
• M6 northbound junction 21a – 22 – closed Thursday 18 and Friday 19 July.
• M6 southbound junction 22 – 21a – closed Monday 15 and Tuesday 16 July
• M6 northbound junction 22 – 23 – closed Thursday 11 and Tuesday 16 July
• M6 southbound junction 23 – 22 – closed Wednesday 10 and Friday 12 July
• Junction 23 to 26 northbound M6 – closed tonight (Wednesday 3rd July), tomorrow night (Thursday 4th July), Saturday morning (6th July – 12.30pm – 6am – hours to accommodate people leaving a event at Haydock Park late Friday 5th July), Monday (8th July) and Wednesday 17th July
• M6 southbound junction 26 – 23 – closed on Tuesday (July 9)

The exact dates and times of the work are subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. Clearly signed diversions will be in place overnight when a carriageway is closed.
