“No arrests have been made at this time. A closure that was put in place has since been lifted.” A member of staff at a nearby store described seeing a “large pool of blood” on the pavement.

The incident led to the installation of a cordon in the area which forced the Metro branch to close temporarily. A member of staff told LeicestershireLive: “There was an argument or something. There were two people who appeared to be bleeding. There was a lot of police around and the whole area was cordoned off for about an hour so people couldn’t get in here.”

An employee at Hansom Cab next door said: “The police put a cordon outside our door so we couldn’t get out. I didn’t see anything, but there were two men outside bleeding afterwards. The ambulance came and went and I assume it took them.”

The incident comes just a day after an attack closed the McDonald’s restaurant in Market Street, Leicester. Police attended an incident around 5.10am on Tuesday.
