Police hunt for third suspect after Leeds United victim leaves with chin and throat slashed

Two men have been arrested after a Leeds United fan’s chin and throat were slashed following Sunday’s draw with Norwich City. Norfolk Police are trying to find a third suspect and appealed to the public to come forward with any additional information about the incident.

The victim, a man in his 60s, suffered his injuries outside Carrow Road as fans left the stadium after full-time. He told police he was punched, hit in the face with a box and was also cut by a sharp object of some description.




He was treated by paramedics at the scene and then allowed to head home without requiring hospital treatment. A man in his late teens was arrested on suspicion of assault grievous bodily harm, while a second man in his 50s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.

A statement from Norfolk Police said: “Two men have been arrested following an incident in Norwich this afternoon. The incident happened shortly after 2pm today when a man in his 60s reported being punched outside Norwich City’s stadium in Carrow Road.

“It is also believed that an object was thrown at the victim who suffered a cut to the chin. The victim was seen by paramedics at the scene and did not require further medical attention.

“A man in his late teens was arrested at the scene on suspicion of GBH assault and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Center for questioning. A man in his 50s was also arrested at the scene on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Center for questioning.

“Both men remain in custody. Police believe another man was also involved in this afternoon’s incident and inquiries are ongoing to find him.

“An investigation has been launched to establish the exact circumstances in which it happened. Officers are keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone in the area at the time with any information or phone footage of the incident.”

Leeds United also released a statement this evening and confirmed they had been in contact with the supporter. The club will also work closely with the police before taking appropriate action.

A spokesman said: “Leeds United can confirm that a supporter has received medical treatment and been discharged following an incident outside Carrow Road following Sunday’s Championship play-off match. The supporter was seen by paramedics at the scene and the club was also in contact with the supporter.

“Two people have been arrested by Norfolk Police. The club will now work closely with the police to fully investigate the incident, understand the facts and take appropriate action.”
