Fergus Falls City Council member resigns

Council Member Brent Thompson (City of Fergus Falls)

Fergus Falls, MN – On Saturday (May 11), Brent Thompson announced his resignation from the Fergus Falls City Council effective immediately.

Brent was the Ward 3 representative, but due to unforeseen circumstances, he will be moving outside the city limits, making him ineligible to serve on the Council.

In his resignation letter, Thompson said: “It has been an honor to serve on the board and represent our community for the past seven and a half years. I would like to express my gratitude for the opportunities and experiences I have had while serving on this board. It has been a privilege to work alongside dedicated people committed to improving the quality of life in our city.”

City Administrator Andrew Bremseth thanks Councilman Thompson for his seven years of service on Council and wishes him well.

At the next City Council meeting on May 20, Council will need to declare a vacancy and then begin the task of filling that seat in accordance with City Council Policy (which can be found in Chapter 2, Section 4 of the City Charter).

The appointee will serve out this term until a new board member is elected for a four-year term in November.

Only Ward 3 residents are eligible for this appointment.

Details on how to apply will be available after the May 20 Council meeting.
