The ‘amazing’ Liverpool player has already returned to training and is desperate to impress Arne Slot

Liverpool’s players are preparing to meet their new head coach this week.

It now seems like a relatively long time has passed since Jurgen Klopp left the club at the end of last season.

Arne Slot was the coach chosen to replace one of the greatest managers in Liverpool’s history. It will take patience from everyone at the club.

The process by which Slott stepped in for Klopp will be accelerated this week as Liverpool’s players not involved in the summer internationals return to the AXA Training Centre.

With those available from the first team squad joining on Friday, some of the most promising young players from Liverpool’s academy are already back and looking to make an impact.

Ben Doak is looking to impress Arne Slot

Part of the reason Liverpool liked Slot as Klopp’s replacement was because of his penchant for giving youngsters a chance.

The Reds have a long tradition of trusting academy players, as Jurgen expertly demonstrated when he brought through Jarell Quansah, Conor Bradley and a host of others last season.

Quansah and Bradley may be the brightest lights on the youth teams, but they aren’t the only ones shining.

Even before he left, Klopp himself named six youngsters that Slot will be able to rely on as he settles in at Anfield.

One missing from that half dozen was Ben Doak. Klopp rates the Scot highly, having trusted Doak enough to hand him a first-team debut at Liverpool as a 16-year-old in 2022.

After only being fit enough to play five times last season, some will have forgotten just what a talent Doak is.

But according to the Liverpool ECHO, the 18-year-old is about to remind them all. They report that Doak returned with the first batch of players on Monday and is “desperate” to make up for lost time.

With days to impress Slot and his new coaching staff before the rest of the team returns, Doak is said to be determined to show them exactly why he’s so highly regarded.

Ben Doak is ready for the big season

There’s no getting away from the fact that last season was a huge disappointment for Doak. This time last year, the teenager was poised to go on and become a mainstay in Liverpool’s squad.

Through no fault of his, that’s not what happened. Doak has been plagued by injury problem after injury problem.

However, there was a reminder at the end of the campaign of how much is expected of the former Celtic prospect.

Despite his modest appearances for the season, Doak was called up in Steve Clarke’s provisional squad for Euro 2024. Although he did not make the final, Doak was said to be “amazing” in the way he took everything in his stride.

With a new manager, everyone at Liverpool is about to clear their roster. If Doak can impress Slot in these early club sessions, there’s no reason he can’t continue this year. There are more loads.
