Cornwall’s AfroDiversity Festival returns in July

The AfroDiversity SDG Festival will take place from 12-14 July 2024 at Lamoureux Park in Cornwall. Building on last year’s success, the festival aims to “promote Afro culture and diversity in all its glory” and features a wide range of activities. Attendees can look forward to cultural performances, performances, workshops, family-friendly activities, an outdoor cinema, an art exhibit, a Miss Ambassador pageant, and various booths featuring food, entrepreneurs, and community organizations.

Event Chair, Flora Kra, expressed her excitement for this year’s event, saying, “Our community in Cornwall is a bright and welcoming city, perfectly positioned to bring our community together while promoting not only African cultures but and our Canadian culture as a whole.” Kra lived in Cornwall for four years, previously lived in Montreal for nine years and was born in Ivory Coast, West Africa.

Vice President of the Festival, Myriam Darveau, added: “It is very important that the community here grows and makes a mark on the map. The festival brings everyone together, even from outside Cornwall.” The AfroDiversity SDG Festival celebrates cultural diversity and reflects the changing demographics of Cornwall. “A lot of new families, immigrants and students have arrived from abroad. We wanted to present this,” concluded Darveau.
