Alfie May has already set up two targets since joining Birmingham City

League One’s most prolific marksman Alfie May wants to score even more goals – and is aiming to fire Birmingham City to the Championship.

The Blues lured promotion rivals Huddersfield Town to sign May from Charlton Athletic earlier this week. May has scored 20 goals in each of the last three League One campaigns and won the Golden Boot last term with 23 goals in 43 games for the Addicks.

“I go into every game feeling confident,” he says. “I try to come off the pitch as the best player and I try to score goals. That’s my job and that’s what Birmingham brought me here for.

“I want to try to score more goals. Everyone looks at my age and thinks I’m getting old now, but I still have many years and many goals to score.”

No one at the Blues is shying away from their main objective next season and that is to win promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt. New boss Chris Davies is ready with an exciting squad

May added: “I think the biggest thing is to get out of this league. It will be a tough league – one of the toughest leagues in Ligue 1 for a long time, there are some big clubs in it. It’s about getting off to a good start so we can get to the ultimate goal we all want at this club and that’s to get back into the Championship.”
