Dan Ashworth is now planning to brutally ax seven Manchester United players this summer

Dan Ashworth has only been in the job for three days and already he has big plans to revolutionize this Manchester United squad.

Manchester United finally appointed Dan Ashworth this week after months of negotiations with Newcastle. He joins an impressive structure that Ineos has already put in place.

They include Omar Berrada, Jason Wilcox and new director of recruiting Christopher Vivell. The difference between these men making decisions and what has been the norm at United for the past decade at least is night and day.

Ineos and Ashworth have plenty of time to make up and now, according to reports, there could be a huge move this summer to offload seven players who are surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.

Who are the seven players Dan Ashworth plans to sell?

Ashworth clearly has big plans for this Manchester United squad and won’t be waiting for things to happen with seven players on his ‘for sale’ list this summer.

This is according to a report in the Mirror which explains that while only a handful of players are actually guaranteed to be safe this summer – with the names being obvious – United are actively trying to offload seven.

Whether the club manage to offload these seven remains to be seen, but the point is that if managed, United would see this summer’s transfer budget significantly improved.

For now, only Greenwood appears to be close to a move, with Marseille and Lazio currently in the running to sign the 22-year-old.

Should all seven be sold by Manchester United this summer?

Of those seven, only one is a name we’d like to see kept after this summer in an ideal world.

For starters, the Brazilian duo should absolutely be let go if the opportunity arises this summer. Neither Antony nor Casemiro had a good season in 2023/24 and so selling both would be ideal, but getting rid of Antony could prove difficult as United would like to recoup some of their of the £86m fee.

Eriksen looks set for a departure after speaking of his unhappiness at his lack of game time. Meanwhile, Lindelof is attracting interest from the Premier League and Turkey.

Sancho, like Greenwood, has no place in Ten Hag’s squad and an exit looks more than likely sooner rather than later.

The one we would like to keep is Maguire after the former United captain was immense last season and with the defense rebuilt, he would still be a solid option in the squad and is also a good figure in the squad.
