Return of the Magnificent Seven

The inspiresport Champions Schools Final Day takes place at DIY Kitchens Stadium in Wakefield on Friday (July 5) with seven titles up for grabs.

Malet Lambert School in Hull will have three girls’ teams involved after their Year 8, 9 and 10 teams triumphed at the national festivals, winning all semi-finals without conceding a single point.

Malet’s Year 8 team beat Outwood Academy (Haydock) 26-0, Year 9 won 50-0 against Castleford Academy and the Year 10 girls beat St Peter’s Catholic High (Wigan) 26-0.

Awaiting the three Malet teams at the DIY Kitchens Stadium in Wakefield Trinity this Friday will be Archbishop Sentamu Academy (Year 8), St Peter’s RC High School (Year 9) and Castleford Academy (Year 10). Archbishop Sentamu beat St John Fisher (Wigan) 20-10, while St Peter’s won 18-10 against West Lakes Academy (Egremont) Cumbria) and Castleford Academy beat Rainford High School (St Helens) with 16-12 in dramatic fashion with a final minute. try.

Rainford High will, however, be represented in the Year 7 final after beating Ysgol Glantaf (Cardiff) 14-10 after golden point extra time. Their opponents will be St Bede’s & St Joesph’s (Bradford), who beat Archbishop Sentamu Academy 34-10.
Three boys titles will also be up for grabs at Wakefield – Years 8, 9 and 10.

Outwood Academy Haydock (St Helens) beat Archbishop Sentamu Academy 16-0 to set up their clash with Bedford High School (Leigh), who themselves overcame a tight semi-final against Malet Lambert 10-6.

A Yorkshire final will take place in the Year 9 Boys category, with Castleford Academy (Wakefield) taking on Sirius Academy West (Hull). Both teams performed well in round one and the quarter-finals, with Castleford dominating Archbishop Sentamu 34-4 in the semi-finals. Sirius, however, had to overcome a determined Bridgewater High (Warrington) 26-20.

Friday’s event will conclude with the Boys’ Year 11 Final between Ryburn Valley High School (Calderdale) and Standish Community High School (Wigan). Both teams played their round one and quarter-finals at home before facing opposition from Warrington in the semi-finals. Ryburn Valley proved too strong for Bridgewater High (24-16), with Standish beating Great Sankey 26-12.

Final day action in Wakefield kicks off on Friday 5th July from 10.45am, with all the action being streamed live on the RFL YouTube channel.
