Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall explains Chelsea move as he leaves Leicester City feeling like a ‘new player’

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall arrives at Stamford Bridge feeling like a “new player”, with the midfielder labeling Chelsea the best club for his next step.

Dewsbury-Hall ended 17 years at Leicester City with a £30m move to the capital. In west London, he will be reunited with Enzo Maresca, the Italian coach helping him produce the best season of his career in the last year.

Following City’s Championship title success, for which Dewsbury-Hall won player of the season, the 25-year-old said he felt full of confidence and motivation to once again show his qualities at the highest level. There is “no better match” than Chelsea for this.

“It’s amazing to be here as a Chelsea player,” he said. “This is a club that people grow up and watch and hope to play for one day, so it’s a privilege to be here. I’m really excited to get going and can’t wait to show everyone what I can do.

“My hope for the season, first and foremost, is to win some silverware. That is a goal for this club and we are in many competitions this season where we can try to do that. So that’s priority number one.

“I want to play as many games as possible and try to help the team as much as possible. This is imperative for me. I want to enjoy the moment and enjoy the occasion. There will be many games this season and hopefully many ups. The team is full of talent and has a lot of potential, so I know that if they are nurtured correctly then we can be really dangerous.

“Last season was a positive year for me and I go into this season feeling like a new player, full of confidence, full of motivation to start and I can’t see a better fit than to come to Chelsea and test myself against my. some top players and playing with top players. I’m in a great space and I can’t wait to get started.”

Dewsbury-Hall’s quest to establish himself as a regular in Chelsea’s starting XI should be aided by his relationship with Maresca. There will be no one in the team who knows the Italian as well as he does.

“I’ve made public what I think about the new head coach,” added Dewsbury-Hall. “It’s fantastic. He is top notch.

“He completely changed the way Leicester wanted to play last season and we saw it work. I personally fell in love with the way he wanted to play and I know a lot of the other guys did too.

“I’m very confident coming in here that he’s going to implement his style and that the boys will buy into it and enjoy it. With more time working with him it will look more natural and when that happens it will be very good for the football club.

“He is a very unique character. He is very relentless and determined, but also has that sweet and gentle side if he wants to talk to you as a human being. It’s good that he has a mix of both because when it’s time to work, it’s time to work and he’s certainly one of the hardest working people I’ve seen in football. He’s a great person to have and he’ll be very good here.”
