Two Big 6 rivals STEAL ahead of Liverpool entering talks with Riccardo Calaifori

Fabrizio Romano claims Liverpool are not in talks for Riccardo Calafiori – but two big six rivals are. The Italian caught the eye in Serie A last season and at Euro 2024.

Fabrizio Romano claims two Premier League sides are in talks for Riccardo Calafiori, but Liverpool are not one of them. This despite the ties between the Reds and the Italians in recent weeks.

However, Arsenal and Chelsea are looking to finish first. Both are discussing a move for the defender, with the Gunners presenting Calafiori with a long-term proposal.

It is also open to join them.

“Arsenal have made a long-term offer to Riccardo Calafiori after interest was revealed last week,” Romano wrote on X/Twitter. “You understand the player’s willingness to join Arsenal if he can reach an agreement with Bologna. Chelsea is still there.

“Arsenal and Chelsea, the only two clubs in talks at the moment”.

Liverpool for Calafiori?

Calafiori had a brilliant season with Bologna last time out, earning a place in the Serie A Team of the Year. He then caught the eye at Euro 2024 for Italy, even though the nation crashed out of the tournament prematurely.

However, Bologna are open to selling the player. Their only real condition is that he doesn’t join Juventus, but they are apparently well aware that big Premier League offers are on the way.

So far, these offers have not come from Liverpool. However, that could change as the Reds are still figuring out if they need a new centre-back this summer.

Joel Matip’s exit has opened up the possibility, but it’s entirely possible that Arne Slot feels that Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konaté, Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah are sufficient for the role. If he doesn’t, then Calafiori could be the defender Liverpool are looking for.

We certainly think he has the ability to be a star for the Reds – if they need one this summer. But he’d better hurry up and make up his mind.
