Max Lowe explains exactly who made his decision to join Sheffield Wednesday ‘very easy’

Sheffield Wednesday are deep into their first week of pre-season training with a new squad.

The Owls have made six signings since avoiding relegation, as well as tying down four players to new contracts.

Sheffield Wednesday are keen to wrap up as many additions as possible before heading to St George’s Park for a training camp, with James Beadle also on the verge of re-signing on loan.

Max Lowe will have a rather unusual start to life after the off-season after making the short trip down the road from Bramall Lane.

While the defender was released by Sheffield United, he is one of the few players to make the jump between the two rivals after spending four years with the Blades.

Max Lowe ‘had to be ‘selfish’ in a controversial decision

Despite the controversial switch and the abuse that would have come with it, Lowe admitted it was a “very easy” decision to move to Hillsborough.

Speaking to the club, Lowe said: “I’m excited to be here and meet all the boys and the staff,” he told the club. “Everyone has been really nice to me so I’m keen to get going… I’ve settled in really easily to be honest, I know a lot of the boys having played against them and even some of them at previous clubs. So it was easy for me and I think I can say the same for the other new guys….

“Once I realized there was interest, I wanted to speak to the manager straight away and once I had an in-depth conversation with him, he made my decision very easy. I had to be selfish and make the best decision for me.

“He has a style of play, he believes in the team he has at the moment and he wants to build on that. Watching him from afar last season, I saw how well the guys did in their position and it’s something I wanted to be a part of.”

Danny Rohl has so much power after one season at Sheffield Wednesday

While many will question why Lowe joined from United on Wednesday, it is very understandable why he wanted to work under Danny Rohl.

He is the second signing to admit he was intrigued by the German coach, with Jamal Lowe revealing he also turned down a host of clubs because of Rohl.

It shows how well-regarded the 35-year-old is in English football now, despite only entering his second season in charge.

Rohl has so much potential and will no doubt have huge interest in him next summer, but if they can keep him even longer than that then Wednesday will certainly be able to land some big players.
