Former Monroe Superintendent Brent Vidrine booked after lengthy school board investigation

MONROE, La. (KNOE) – Former Monroe City Superintendent Brent Vidrine has been booked following a lengthy investigation involving purchases during his time on the school board.

The investigation began when the MCSB raised a complaint regarding funds sent to Vidrine. Vidrine later sued MCSB for what it claimed was a breach of their October 2023 contractual agreement.

The countersuit against MCSB alleged that Vidrine asked the school board for Teacher Retirement System of Louisiana (TRSL) funds, which MCSB sent in 2021 and 2022. The countersuit also alleged that the funds were paid directly to Vidrine instead of by TRSL.

An investigation completed by Workplace Investigations of the South found “significant failures at every level of authority in the Monroe City school system.” The investigation was then turned over to the Louisiana Legislative Auditor, who then turned it over to the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office upon completion.

The affidavit shows Vidrine was arrested on one count of theft, one count of misconduct in office and two counts of filing or maintaining false public records. That’s four felony charges.

Vidrine was released on bond set at $22,500.

This is an ongoing investigation.
