Liverpool secure share of UEFA’s $151m win as Arne Slot delivers financial boost

Thanks to the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool are set for a cash injection from UEFA this summer. As is customary with every major international tournament, UEFA and FIFA offer clubs around the world a compensation package for representing their players’ national team.

Euro 2024 is no exception, with 10 Anfield stars hoping to win some silverware in Germany this summer. Liverpool have three representatives in the Netherlands squad in Van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch and two in the England squad in Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez.

Diogo Jota played for Portugal while Ibrahima Konate played second fiddle to William Saliba for France. In the group stage, Andy Robertson represented Scotland and Dominik Szoboszlai starred for Hungary, while Vitezslav Jaros remained on the bench for the Czech Republic.

The exact breakdown for each club will be revealed after the tournament, but based on past figures Liverpool, classified as ‘Category 1’, will receive the highest amount, which for Euro 2020 was €8,700 ($9,408/£7,362) per player, per each. the day they were on international duty, reports the Liverpool ECHO.

Payouts start 10 days before a team’s first match in the finals and continue until one day after they are eliminated (or the trophy is lifted). As such, Liverpool have already pocketed around €548,100 ($592,688/£463,755) for the participation of Robertson, Szoboszlai and Jaros, who have already been sent home.

The total amount for the remaining players in the tournament is yet to be confirmed. However, with England and the Netherlands set to progress to the semi-finals this weekend and France or Portugal guaranteed to progress, the Reds are set to earn a substantial fee.
