Former Prime Minister Theresa May set Rishi Sunak’s electoral honors for the House of Lords

Former Prime Minister Theresa May has been given a nod in the dissolution honors list published by Rishi Sunak. The honours, which came an hour before polls closed in the general election, also featured Mr Sunak’s right-hand man, Liam Booth-Smith, who was awarded a daughter-in-law.

Lord Booth-Smith had been Mr Sunak’s chief of staff in Downing Street. Former cabinet minister Chris Grayling, former 1922 Conservative caucus chairman Sir Graham Brady and Mrs May will also take seats in the House of Lords.




Former deputy speaker Dame Eleanor Laing and former MP Craig Mackinlay, who battled sepsis that cost him his arms and legs, also received notoriety. Former Cop26 Chairman and Cabinet Minister Sir Alok Sharma was also appointed as a peer.

Labor veterans Dame Margaret Beckett, Harriet Harman and Dame Margaret Hodge will also take seats in the House of Lords. Among Sir Keir Starmer’s nominations for the Dissolution Awards is former Labor Parliamentary Party Chairman John Cryer.

There are also peerages for former minister Kevan Jones, who played a prominent role in campaigning for justice for sub-postmasters caught up in the Horizon scandal, former vice-president Dame Rosie Winterton and veteran ex-whip John Spellar.

Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden was knighted, while former Deputy Prime Minister Therese Coffey was made a dame. The two Tories were given top honors, along with three other party colleagues, former Defense Secretary Ben Wallace and former Chief Minister Julian Smith, who were both made Knight Commanders of the Order of the Bath, while former Scottish Secretary Alister Jack was knighted of the Order.
