The Premier League club are now expected to bid for Manchester United’s Scott McTominay

Manchester United are expected to make midfield changes this summer, but there could be yet another surprise departure.

Midfield has been an area of strength for Manchester United in years past.

Bryan Robson, Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, Michael Carrick… United fans have seen some quality midfielders in the famous red shirt.

The last few years have been tougher, though, with United throwing so many darts at the board and failing to even hit.

Marouane Fellaini, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Donny van de Beek weren’t exactly value for money, and Marcel Sabitzer came and went quickly.

Changes are expected again this summer, with Casemiro’s future unclear, Christian Eriksen may move on and Sofyan Amrabat only on loan from Fiorentina.

Fulham are ready for Scott McTominay bid

Those players moving on would surprise no-one and United already have a top midfield target in mind in Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte.

The addition of Ugarte alongside Kobbie Mainoo could strengthen United’s midfield, but there may still be a surprise departure in the offing.

Manchester World report that Fulham are leading the race to sign Scott McTominay – and they are preparing to make a bid.

It is suggested that United are “willing to sell” McTominay this summer to raise funds.

McTominay is a home player and a sale would take 100% off the books.

Southampton, Newcastle United and West Ham United are all also interested in McTominay, but Marco Silva wants to sign the Scot to pair with Andreas Pereira in midfield.

Fulham are set to lose Joao Palhinha to Bayern Munich and look set to invest in further midfield additions.

McTominay is on the wishlist, but while he offers the size and physicality of Palhinha, he is certainly not a midfield destroyer and is at his best when allowed to attack the box.

Marco Silva spoke to Manchester United

United are apparently ready to listen to offers for McTominay and could end up playing under Marco Silva at Craven Cottage.

It’s quite ironic considering Silva could have been Manchester United boss this summer.

Reports in June suggested United had spoken to Silva about potentially replacing Erik ten Hag.

The Portuguese manager has worked wonders with Fulham and now has them comfortably as a mid-table Premier League club.

Ineos apparently liked Silva but chose to stick with Ten Hag as United boss.

Siva hasn’t made it to the dugout at Old Trafford, but could now launch a move for McTominay in a bid to land United this summer.
