Leeds General Election Live as polls close, results are tallied and MPS declared

Thousands of people in Leeds have voted in the 2024 UK general election to decide who will lead the country.

As the election is underway, we’ll be providing all the latest updates with news on the results and reaction, straight from the count. The results of each of the 650 seats will be announced after the polls close at 10 p.m.




The ballot box from each polling station will be transported to centralized locations along with postal votes. Once the boxes are checked for each constituency, staff can then begin counting each ballot.

Sir Keir Starmer is heading to Downing Street as an exit poll suggested his Labor Party would sweep into power.

The Labor leader will become prime minister on Friday with a commanding majority in Parliament, the exit poll for broadcasters suggested. Rishi Sunak’s tenure as Prime Minister looks set to end in electoral disaster, with the Conservatives forecasting heavy losses.

It marks a dramatic turnaround from the 2019 general election, when Boris Johnson won the Tories a healthy 80-seat majority and Jeremy Corbyn led Labor to its worst result since 1935. reduced to 131.
