Counting begins in Leicestershire and Rutland

Keith Vaz arrives for the Leicester East countpublished at 01:50

Leicester candidate Keith Vaz, who was Labor MP for Leicester East for 32 years, arrived at the Mattioli Arena.

He previously resigned from his position in 2019 after it was found that he had an “expressed desire” to buy cocaine for male prostitutes.

His candidacy threw a wrench in the works for Labor candidate Rajesh Agrawal, who will also have to compete with another former MP for the area, Claudia Webbe.

Ms Webbe was a Labor MP after its election in 2019 but was suspended from the party following a harassment conviction.

Since 1987, the office has been represented only by Mr. Vaz and, lastly, by Mrs. Webbe. Will that change tonight?

The full list of candidates is here.
