Dominic Iorfa signs new Sheffield Wednesday deal

The son of former Nigerian international Dominic Iorfa jnr has extended his stay at English Championship side Sheffield Wednesday until 2026.

The former England junior international joined the Owls in January 2019 when he moved from Premier League side Wolves.

Iorfa has since made 142 appearances in blue and white, booting five goals from behind along the way.

The first of that quintet was particularly memorable in the dying derby on debut at Rotherham.

He went on to lift Wednesday’s Player of the Year award for the 2019/20 season.

In a statement, the club said the 29-year-old proved equally at home in a central defensive berth or at right-back, providing valuable versatility at the back.

Iorfa was part of the squad that secured promotion to the Championship at Wembley in May 2023 and played a key role in the dramatic survival of the second-tier Owls last time out.

The contract extension came as exciting news to his close family and friends who are proud of him.

A close family member who spoke to Daily Trust on the phone said: “We are all delighted with the news and congratulate Junior on this achievement.

“By offering him a new contract, Sheffield Wednesday have recognized his invaluable contributions and demonstrated their confidence in his ability to continue to serve them.

“As a family, we are all happy and grateful to God for allowing Dominic Iorfa jnr to carry on his father’s legacy in football,” he said.
