In pictures: General Election 2024 in Greater Manchester as ballot boxes arrive for a night of counting

After the polls closed at 10:00 PM and millions of people cast their ballots, ballot boxes quickly began to reach the election count across the country.

And if the exit polls are correct, they show Labor on course for a huge landslide, winning 410 seats with a majority of 170 in parliament. Rishi Sunak’s Conservatives are on course to claim 131 seats, the Lib Dems 61, Reform 13, the SNP 10 and the Green Party, 2.

All 27 Greater Manchester constituencies of Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan were contested.

In the region, the first results are expected to come from Wigan around 1am, with results from Stockport, Stalybridge and Salford due after 5am. All UK and Greater Manchester results should be declared by mid-morning.
