Kirklees General Election LIVE as polls close, results are tallied and MPS is declared

For the 2024 UK general election, thousands of people in Kirklees voted to decide who will lead the country.

As the election is underway, we’ll be providing all the latest updates with news on the results and reaction, straight from the count. The results of each of the 650 seats will be announced after the polls close at 10 p.m.




The ballot box from each polling station will be transported to centralized locations along with postal votes. Once the boxes are checked for each constituency, staff can then begin counting each ballot.

With the general election just around the corner, we take a look at all the parliamentary candidates who will be vying for your votes.

On July 4, residents of the neighborhood will head to the polls to vote for their next local MP. On voting day, polling stations will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with voters reminded to bring a valid ID.

  • Huddersfield – 51.82%
  • Spen Valley – 56.72%
  • Dewsbury and Batley – 53.3%
  • Colne Valley – 63.85%

Ballot checking is underway at Cathedral House in Huddersfield.

Once this is completed and turnout announced, counting will begin. The first result is expected around 5.30 am.

Sunderland South claim first place, while Labor are second and Reform UK

Sunderland South is the first seat to fall as Labor holds on to its position.

The Conservative Party was pushed into third place by Reform UK.

Exit polls show Conservatives facing huge defeat with Rishi as prime minister set to end in disaster

Sir Keir Starmer is heading to Downing Street as an exit poll suggested his Labor Party would sweep into power.

The Labor leader will become prime minister on Friday with a commanding majority in Parliament, the exit poll for broadcasters suggested. Rishi Sunak’s tenure as Prime Minister looks set to end in electoral disaster, with the Conservatives forecasting heavy losses.

It marks a dramatic turnaround from the 2019 general election, when Boris Johnson won the Tories a healthy 80-seat majority and Jeremy Corbyn led Labor to its worst result since 1935. reduced to 131.
