The Royal Enfield will not have a 250cc engine

There have been talks that Royal Enfield will look at introducing two new engine platforms between 250cc-750cc, however we have a confirmed report from someone close to the factory that there is no 250cc engine in the pipeline.

“There is no 250cc engine in the pipeline. Royal Enfield has taken an internal decision not to have engines under 350cc. This is what Enfield bikes are all about and the company will not want to lose its identity,” the source said.

Royal Enfield has given correct information about the development of two platforms and the two engines are 410cc and 650cc. The 410cc engine is a single cylinder and will replace the 350cc in the future due to emission norms. The 410cc engine will come in two states of tune, one will be carbureted and five-speed transmission, and the other will be the more powerful version with fuel injection and six-speed transmission. This is the first engine platform.

The second is a 650cc twin-cylinder engine. This engine will replace the 500cc and 535cc engines due to emissions. Royal Enfield has invested in two new platforms for their upcoming bikes as well, along with the construction of Phase II of their Chennai plant. There will be two R&D centers for the company, one will be in Chennai and there will be a satellite center in the UK. Royal Enfield registered a 40% growth in its sales in April 2015, which is much better than most of the bike manufacturers in the country today.
