Arne Slot LIVE press conference – The Liverpool boss speaks to the media for the first time

Arne Slot will face the media for the first time as Liverpool manager today in a press conference at the AXA Training Centre.

The Dutchman was appointed as Jurgen Klopp’s successor in May after the German stepped down after an illustrious nine-year reign in charge of the club.

It has been a quiet start to life at Anfield for Slot, who was unveiled in June with a 20-minute chat with the club’s media, but he will have to face the assembled press for the first time as pre-season gets under way.

The ECHO’s Paul Gorst and Theo Squires will be at the Liverpool training ground to bring you live updates and analysis from everything Slot has to say, our dedicated live blog will bring you all the latest news as it happens.

Slot’s senior players will join him in training next week. His first competitive game in charge of the Reds will come against Ipswich Town on August 17.

What do you want to hear about?

So what do you want to see from Arne Slot today?

I don’t think he needs to try to replicate what Jurgen Klopp did all those years ago at Anfield when he promised to turn doubters into believers and so on, Slot just needs to be himself, in truth.

I think it would be reassuring for some to hear that he has plans for the big topics dominating the agenda at Anfield right now. He has been working particularly closely with sporting director Richard Hughes since June 1, so some indication that plans are underway would be hugely encouraging.

Anyway, ECHO head of football Joe Rimmer and I took a closer look.

It’s been pretty low-key for Arne Slot at Liverpool so far. And that’s what they wanted after Jurgen Klopp’s emotional departure in May.

An interview with the club’s media gave us a glimpse of how Slot will approach media engagements, and his relaxed tone gave the impression that he is not fazed by his new surroundings.

But if you’ve followed any of his press engagements in his native Holland, you’ll know he’s a very confident man. And that will be needed when he faces the media in his first press conference.

And while I don’t think he needs an iconic “doubting believers” or “normal one” line to print on an array of coffee mugs, a sense of his faith would be nice. That’s why I’d love to see him, as Klopp did, promising silverware.

It is the minimum requirement for any Liverpool boss and Slot must believe he will be picking something up before too long. “

What’s on the agenda?

So what exactly will be on the agenda this morning?

As this is the first time we’ve heard from Slot outside of the club’s official media, there will be plenty to drop on transfer plans, the contract situations of several high-profile players and his tactical strategy going forward.

The slot will almost certainly be asked to provide some sort of update on the futures of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

All three are now in the final year of their tenure and given their importance to the overall cause at Anfield, it is unthinkable that they are allowed to leave the club on a free transfer next summer.

Contract negotiations are the purview of the sporting director, but given we’re unlikely to hear from Richard Hughes too often – if ever – expect Slot to reassure those looking for clues as to what he might reserve the future for three of the oldest. name from the team.

Liverpool might insist they are relaxed, but with no move reported, fans might start to get a little worried. Slot has a chance to put those worries to rest somewhat on Friday morning. “

Morning

Good morning and welcome to a special ECHO live blog as Arne Slot prepares to face the media for the first time with Liverpool’s new head coach.

The Dutchman has been in charge, officially, since June 1, but all has been quiet on the home front apart from a special interview with LFCTV’s Peter McDowall last month.

Slot will have plenty of agendas to run through today and the ECHO will be front and center of it all, so stay tuned throughout the morning as we prepare to usher in a new era at Anfield.

A new era indeed.

The first games from Slot

So, as it stands, Arne Slot will take charge of Liverpool for the first time in Pittsburgh on July 26 (US time) when they face Real Betis, although there could be a couple of friendlies behind closed doors at AXA. before then.

A 12.30pm trip to Ipswich Town awaits their first competitive game on August 17th, when the Reds will hopefully have some new signings! At least all their internationals will be back.

But no sign of those still at Euro 2024 and the Copa America when the US tournament kicks off – sorry US fans. I don’t know why I’m apologizing, mind you, if you follow our blogs in the States, you’re still very much asleep right now!

Anyway, I digress. I put my thinking cap on earlier this week and thought about what starting XI Slot might pick for his first game in charge against Betis and speculated a bit about the traveling squad he might take in State…

New squad, new captain, new role Mohamed Salah, it will look quite different!

What’s on the agenda?

It’s a clean slate with a new head coach at Anfield, so I suspect that could be anything on the table when it comes to asking Arne Slot. Here are some of the things I’d like to hear him quiz on…

Mine’s a bourbon, in case you’re wondering.

What time is Arne Slot’s press conference?

So, we are waiting for Arne Slot from 11 in the morning at the AXA Training Center this morning. Fingers crossed it’s on time. Jurgen Klopp was right until his last month in charge when his mind wandered to a beach in Marbella!

Paul Gorst and I aim to be at Liverpool’s training ground around 10am, where we’ll bring you every word from the Dutchman, along with plenty more coverage. If you’re lucky, you might even get a special on-site version of the Blood Red podcast!

But that doesn’t mean you can close the tab now and come back in a few hours! I’ll be pulling up to Slot’s presser all morning, so we’ve got plenty to dive into.

And I woke up early for you guys today, canceling a day off to cover this, so you better keep me company! i love you xoxo
