Chipping Barnet turns Labor for the first time

Dan Tomlinson has become Chipping Barnet’s first Labor MP after defeating main challenger and former Tory minister Theresa Villiers.

In a result that drew loud cheers from the Labor contingent at the RAF Museum, the count on Friday morning saw Tomlinson poll more than 21,000 votes, nearly 3,000 more than Villiers.

In his speech, Tomlinson noted how his victory came after Labor had banished the taint of antisemitism under the previous leadership.
