Urgent warning as popular child car seat recalled amid injury fears

Injury fears have sparked an emergency recall of a popular child car seat. The Office of Product Safety and Standards has warned parents not to use the Kinderkraft I-CARE car seat.

The dark green seat may present a risk of injury, especially when the car seat is carried outside the vehicle. This is because the carrying handle fastener can loosen during use.

As a result, the affected seats do not comply with the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005. The recall has been issued by the manufacturer and applies to car seats with batch numbers between 23W17 and 23W46.

To check this number, you need to look at the label under the car seat, preceded by the model code. KinderKraft has launched a free voluntary safety program to allow customers to exchange the product for a new one.

Kinderkraft will arrange for the car seat to be picked up free of charge by the courier service. They will then send a new model that is completely safe and free of defects, with shipping costs covered by the manufacturer.

On their website, Kinderkraft said: “4Kraft Sp. z o. o., the manufacturer of the Kinderkraft brand, launches a voluntary, free safety program and accepts a select, well-defined batch of Kinderkraft I – CARE car seats for testing. At 4Kraft Sp. z o. o., responsibility for the quality and safety of Kinderkraft products is a priority. We engage in rigorous quality control processes, ensuring that our products not only meet, but often exceed the requirements of European safety standards.

“Ensuring this is done through extensive inspections of our production lines and detailed analysis of products entering the market, including mechanical, impact and chemical testing. During internal testing, which went beyond typical requirements, we detected potential risks associated with carrying the car seat outside of the vehicle. This refers to the possible loosening of the carrying handle fastener.”
