Man and woman arrested after street brawl in West Knighton, Leicester

One person was taken to hospital after a street fight in Leicester last night (Thursday) in which attackers used spray. Leicestershire Police and the ambulance service were called to Pendlebury Drive, in West Knighton, shortly before 10pm.

Firefighters also intervened for fear that a dangerous material might have been used. The spray was found to be non-toxic, but one person was taken to hospital for treatment of facial injuries.



A police spokesman said at 11.30pm yesterday: “Please be advised that Leicestershire Police are in attendance. There is no risk to the wider community and no cause for concern. Thank you for your support at this time.”

In an update this afternoon, the force said two people – a man and a woman – had been arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm. The police statement said: “Police were called to Pendlebury Drive in Knighton at 10pm yesterday (Thursday) following a report of a number of people arguing in the street.

“It was also reported that a substance was sprayed on some of those involved. Officers attended and, for police and public safety reasons, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and East Midlands Ambulance Service also attended.

“The substance is believed to be non-toxic. One person was taken to hospital to be treated for facial injuries believed to be the result of an assault.

“A 40-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Both remain in custody and investigations continue.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 750 of July 4.”
