Dramatic footage shows a fire breaking out on the docks

Firefighters are still working to destroy a 10,000-tonne pile of waste which caused a large fire in Kirkdale.

Thick smoke was seen in parts of Liverpool last night, Thursday 4th July, as Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service tackled a fire at Canada Dock.

Two fire engines attended the scene just before 10.30pm to deal with the incident as people were urged to avoid the area.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that crews continued to dig up the waste overnight. Photos shared with the ECHO show the fire on the Wirral side of the river in the early hours of this morning.

Now, three ground monitors are still in use, while numerous grippers and a dump truck continue to break up the waste pile.
