Two huge PSR sales from Leeds United could boost chances of retaining Player of the Season heir – View

Leeds United are expected to sell Crysencio Summerville, while Archie Gray has already been confirmed, but the departure of both could strengthen their chances of keeping Willy Gnonto as the new starting left-back.

Daniel Farke’s handling last summer was incredible as the club managed to wade through troubled waters to build a promotion-ready side.

They missed out in the end, but the talent is there in this Leeds side, and not all players will be unearthed by the Eagles in the top flight.

Leeds are set to lose Crysencio Summerville after the sale of Archie Gray

After the final whistle blew at Wembley with Leeds on the wrong end of the score in the play-off final, it seemed virtually certain that this would be the last time we would see Crysencio Summerville playing in a Leeds shirt.

The Championship player of the season and the best individual in the division, he will not stay for a second spell in the EFL and would be worth the interest of around £40m which has already been reported.

His sale follows that of Archie Gray, who left for Tottenham in a £40m deal this week.

For the 49ers, it’s hard to look at Gray and Summerville as anything more important than huge get-out-of-jail-free PSR cards, knowing that the departure of those two could clear any lingering FFP clouds in an instant.

While Red Bull have increased the club’s finances in this regard, it seems impossible to rule out Summerville joining Gray in leaving.

Will Leeds be promoted next season?

Another player many would justifiably expect to see him leave is Willy Gnonto, mainly due to the fact that 12 months ago he made it very clear that he saw his future beyond the Championship – to the point where he refused to play, although he was visibly ill-advised.

Gnonto was frustrated in his efforts to right the wrongs of last August, taking until February to break his drought at Bristol City, a goal that brought a burst of joy and relief for the Italian to shake off a huge weight of on the shoulders. .

He then burst into life for Leeds and arguably became as important an attacking asset as his Dutch partner in crime on the other flank.

Contracted until 2027, Gnonto has three years left on his deal and Leeds are in a strong position to demand a huge fee for him, as are others.

It is not beyond the realms of possibility that Summerville and Gray’s exits allow Leeds to focus their full attention on keeping Gnonto spearheading Leeds 2.0’s promotion.

What would be encouraging for Gnonto would be the promise of being on the left wing again, where his output will skyrocket compared to looking less suited to the right flank.

Replacing Summerville’s Player of the Season, Gnonto would be an early shout to give Leeds back-to-back EFL awards, knowing his bottom-third finish is worthy of a 20-plus goal campaign at this level.

Still, it’s a huge “if” to keep Gnonto, given that his closest friend here is leaving.
