The National Weather Service office in Wakefield, VA has placed its region, which includes the Roanoke-Chowan area, under an excessive heat warning today (Friday) from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Dangerous heat is expected today. Temperatures in the upper 90s combined with high humidity will lead to heat index readings around 110 degrees. Be extremely cautious and take frequent breaks if you must be outdoors!

Today’s official forecast for Roanoke-Chowan area counties shows an expected high of 97, with heat index values ​​as high as 108. Southwest wind around 8 mph.
