“The transfer to Liverpool came out of nowhere – I couldn’t believe it when my agent called me”

Speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes Fanzone, Bogdan spoke about how his move to Anfield came about. He said: “As I was crossing the border I got a call from my agent.

“He told me it looked like Liverpool were going to get in touch. It was incredible for me. I was so happy, I was so proud and so excited.

“All these emotions, they were so huge. I wasn’t afraid, or anything like that; I was ready for it. I knew the standard would be higher, but I was ready. It’s something I was really proud of. .”

The games were to come for Bogdan, who was stuck behind Liverpool’s No.1 goalkeeper Simon Mignolet. He made just two Premier League appearances but experienced the high of saving three spot-kicks in a penalty shoot-out win over Carlisle United in the third round of the League Cup.

Although Bogdan is not afraid to admit that he was surprised by the interest of the six-time European champions in him, he believes that he can identify the moment when he convinced them that he was reserve material, reports the Liverpool Echo.

“I played in an FA Cup game in January and it was probably one of the best games I’ve had for the club (Bolton)… not just in terms of the save but the psychology,” he he said.

“I felt completely focused and balanced playing at Anfield. And I think that must have been picked up, or must have left some sort of impression on the people of Liverpool.

“I don’t think it was anything more than that, but later that year obviously Brad Jones left the club, which meant the second-choice spot was open at the club. I think they wanted someone with England experience, which I obviously had.”
