A body has been found on a mountain in the Lake District. A search has been launched for West Yorkshire man Richard Lucas.

Richard, 60, was reported missing from his home in West Yorkshire shortly before midnight on Wednesday (May 8) after being believed to be in Cumbria, possibly in the Scafell area, said Cumbria Police.

On Thursday 9 May, mountain rescue teams received a call that a lone man had not made contact after a walk from Seathwaite to Scafell Pike.

Search dogs, drones and a coastguard helicopter were dispatched, Lancs Live reports, but unfortunately the walker was not found. The body was found on Scafell Pike the next morning on Friday after similar efforts were made to find him.

A spokesman for Wasdale Mountain Rescue said: “Sincere condolences to the walker’s family and friends. Our thoughts are with you all. Thank you to everyone who supported this significant multi-agency team effort. We are very grateful for the help.”

The Wasdale team worked with Keswick MRT, Duddon and Furness MRT and Langdale Ambleside MRT to find the man.
