Live: Friday traffic madness on the M5 and M4 as the weekend getaway begins

There are long delays on the M5 and M4 around Bristol as the weekend getaway begins. Major queuing can be expected on the M5 Southbound from J17 A4018 (Cribbs Causeway) to J20 B3133 Ettlingen Way (Clevedon) due to the high volume of holiday traffic.

Meanwhile, the westbound M4 Brynglas tunnels from Newport before J26 A4051 (Malpas Road) are also experiencing major delays, with waiting times of up to 45 minutes.

Elsewhere, due to emergency repairs to the barrier at J20 M5 (Almondsbury Interchange), which have been underway since June 28, the M4 eastbound lane is closed on the exit to the M5 southbound. Google Maps shows heavy traffic on the M5 and M4.

Motorists should also expect heavy traffic on the A358 in Somerset. The lane is blocked in both directions due to obstructions on the nearby road West Hatch stop We currently do not know when the traffic will clear, but we will keep you posted as the day progresses.
