People told me to try, but now I only have myself to blame

I only have myself to blame for the very real craving I now have after trying Scouse, but not in the traditional way.

Sitting just yards from Anfield, outside the much-talked-about Homebaked Bakery, I tucked into the home-baked delicacy I’d heard so much about. The meal included potatoes, carrots, onions and hearty chunks of beef topped with homemade pastries.

And for those who don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s called a Scouse Pie – although it’s not quite the traditional Scouse, this pie has got me craving the real thing.

Ever since I moved to Liverpool from the North East everyone has told me this is a must try recipe. I’ve heard my friends recite their mother and daughter’s Scouse recipe, seen them look completely satisfied when talking about the family dish, and all got excited when they found out I hadn’t tried it yet.

It’s clearly a staple in any Scouser’s home, and if I’m going to be staying here for the foreseeable future, then it’s time to try it.

Adventure came with my first trip to Anfield. Unfortunately, I wasn’t there to watch the Reds – my trip came as Taylor Swift visited the city for three nights last month – and the whole atmosphere around Anfield was buzzing.
