Coventry City starlet Marlow Barrett is lining up a move to Manchester City

Coventry City prospect Marlow Barrett is set to join Manchester City, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

Coventry City are gearing up for another season of Championship football and this time, they will be determined to get back into the play-off places.

A slow start to the 2023/24 campaign has ultimately given the Sky Blues too much ground to cover in their push for the top six. As such, he ended up in 9th place, although he still enjoyed a memorable year.

New signings are on the radar for Mark Robins and co and it is hoped that key men can stay put after some big sales last summer. However, the Championship club could be set to lose one of their emerging prospects.

Writing on X, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims that Premier League giants Manchester City are closing in on a deal for young Coventry City defender Marlow Barrett.

Other top clubs have been keen, but it is Man City who will win the race.

Barrett is a promising young defender, but it seems he is ready to swap one Sky Blue side for another.

Little to do

Of course, EFL clubs are hoping their top academy prospects can stay on board and make senior breakthroughs under their watch after working their way through the youth ranks.

However, Coventry City and all clubs at Football League level will be more than aware that it can be difficult to fend off such high-profile interest when it arises. he seems poised to do just that for Barrett.

If they do indeed leave, the Sky Blues will be hoping to be well compensated.

That way, the funds raised since his departure can be reinvested back into the academy to help develop other young prospects.

Meanwhile, at first team level

With Barrett looking set to move on from Coventry City’s academy, much of the focus this summer has been on his first-team setup.

The Sky Blues have made some eye-catching signings in recent windows and three new additions have arrived so far. Jack Rudoni has arrived from relegated Huddersfield Town, while popular loanee Luis Binks has returned from Bologna on a permanent basis.

Talented winger Raphael Borges Rodrigues has also arrived from Australia and the club will not be looking to stop there.

The Robins will be determined to build a squad capable of challenging at the very top of the division, and with a couple of additional signings, Coventry City should not be far from a squad ready to do just that.
