Warning to watch out for ‘flu-like symptoms’ as foods are recalled

Bread Spread is recalling some of its refrigerated and ready-to-eat foods because Listeria monocytogenes was found in some of the products. The urgent recall includes all pack sizes and products with date codes up to and including May 18, 2024.

The spreads are sold under several names – Bread Spread, Orbital and Perfect Bite.

Symptoms caused by listeria can be similar to the flu and include high temperature, muscle aches or pains, chills, feeling sick or diarrhea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications such as meningitis.

Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies younger than one month, and people with weakened immune systems.

Point-of-sale ads will be displayed where the products were sold. These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have purchased the products.

If you bought one, don’t eat it. Instead, return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund. For more information [email protected]

If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it could be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product). The FSA issues Product Recall Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to inform consumers and local authorities about problems associated with food. In some cases, a “Food Alert for Action” is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers.
