Islington South and Finsbury 2024 general election results

Labor held the Islington South and Finsbury constituency in the 2024 general election. Elected candidate Emily Thornberry won with a majority of 15,455 votes.

Ms Thornberry received 22,946 votes in the poll, ahead of Green Party candidate Carne Ross, in second place, who received 7,491 votes.

Residents of Islington South and Finsbury went to the polls on Thursday 4th July to choose the candidate to serve as their MP in the next Parliament.

Counting of votes for the general election began after the polls closed at 10pm on Thursday night and the Islington South and Finsbury result was published by the Press Association at 02.14am on Friday.

A total of 74,122 people were eligible to vote in Islington South and Finsbury, and of these 42,754 decided to complete a ballot, which meant that the turnout in the constituency was 57.7%.

Turnout in Islington South and Finsbury has fallen compared to the last general election in 2019, when 68.7% of the electorate used their vote.

Emily Thornberry (Labour) – 22,946 votes (53.7%).

Carne Ross (Green Party) – 7,491 votes (17.5%).

Terry Stacy (Liberal Democrat) – 4,045 votes (9.5%).

Imogen Sinclair (Conservatives) – 3,584 votes (8.4%).

Max Nelson (Reform) – 3,388 votes (7.9%).

Andrew Parry (Independents) – 569 votes (1.3%).

Lesley Woodburn (PartyWomen) – 354 votes (0.8%).

Ethan Saunders (TUSC) – 215 votes (0.5%).

Jake Painter (Soc Dem) – 162 votes (0.4%).

Most UK constituencies have changed boundaries or names since the last general election, but analysis of previous results based on 2024 boundaries for Islington South and Finsbury shows Labor won 6,782 fewer votes than in 2019.

In the 2019 general election, Labor won 57 percent of the votes cast, and in the 2024 election, the party’s vote share fell to 53.7 percent.

The Green Party had a vote share of one percent in 2019, and this increased to a vote share of 17.5 percent in 2024.
