‘Do not eat’ warning for ingredient as salmonella ‘could cause diarrhea and cramps’

An ingredient in the meal is being recalled due to the risk of salmonella. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has said not to eat the product, which is sold in various supermarkets and shops across the UK.

The FSA said AB World Foods Ltd was recalling Al’Fez Natural Tahini because Salmonella was found in some batches of the product.

The affected batch is a 160g pack size with batch codes 3355, 4004, 4023, 4024, 4039, 4040. It will have an expiry date of June 2025, July 2025 or August 2025.

The FSA said: “Salmonella has been found in some batches of the products listed above. Symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhea and abdominal cramps.

“AB World Foods Ltd is recalling the above product. Point of sale notices will be displayed in stores where the product was sold. These ads explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they bought the product.

“If you have purchased the above product, do not eat it. Instead return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund. For further information, please contact the Al’Fez customer support team on 0800 0195 617 or by email at [email protected].”

About product recalls and withdrawals

The FSA said: “If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it could be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product). The FSA issues Product Recall Information Notices and Product Recall Notices to inform consumers and local authorities about problems associated with food taken on behalf of consumers.’
