Sheffield Wednesday arrival explains Danny Rohl influence in summer transfer

Danny Rohl’s influence has played a massive part in Sheffield Wednesday’s transfer business.

Sheffield Wednesday have now had seven confirmed signings come through the door at Hillsborough, proving that Danny Rohl’s side are really looking to build on last season’s success of staying in the Championship.

The arrivals in S6 have opened eyes so far, with Sheffield Wednesday covering the bases of Championship experience with Ben Hamer, Max Lowe and Jamal Lowe, as well as thinking outside the box with the deals to bring Svante Ingelsson and Olaf Kobacki from overseas to South Yorkshire.

Rohl has undoubtedly played a massive part in tempting players to join the Owls ahead of the 2024/25 Championship season due to the achievements of last season, but also down to his ability to get the best out of any player.

One new Sheffield Wednesday arrival has shared how important Rohl’s influence was in making the decision to join up with the Championship club.

Sheffield Wednesday signing Yan Valery on reconnecting with Danny Rohl

Sheffield Wednesday wing-back Yan Valery has arrived at Hillsborough with plenty of promise due to the fact that Rohl had previously coached him as an assistant while at Premier League side Southampton.

The Tunisian international has made it clear that the German boss was the deciding factor in making the decision to return to England with Sheffield Wednesday.

Speaking to the club in his first interview, he said: “As soon as I knew that Danny wanted me, I just wanted to go back with him because I’ve known him as Southampton assistant coach, but he’s the one that was really working on the pitch with the players and with me in my first season.

“He helped me a lot and I improved so much with him so I was really happy to hear from him again and to know that now he was the main manager, so obviously it was a no-brainer.”

How far can Danny Rohl’s influence stretch when targeting Sheffield Wednesday signings

It’s clear that Rohl can be predominantly thanked for bringing such high profile figures to the team ahead of the 2024/25 Championship season.

His body of work consisting of delivering success at both Bayern Munich and the German national team as assistant coach really put Sheffield Wednesday in the driving seat when battling out with top-end Championship clubs for signings.

The Josh Windass transfer saga showed that the Owls can fight with the big-hitters, luring the attacker away from a move to West Brom in order to stay at Hillsborough for a further year.

Sheffield Wednesday could even go above and beyond in targeting young Premier League talents on loan, with word easily getting out that Rohl is brilliant in adapting younger players, just like how he was able to do with Valery at Southampton.

Sheffield Wednesday’s edge in signing players so far this campaign could really help bring in one or two more big names before the window closes, which could leave the Owls in a position to surprise a few by targeting a potential promotion push.
