Leeds United are set for £10m

Leeds United are looking to offload defender Maximilian Wober this summer to add more space to their transfer kitty, according to the latest reports.

The Austrian defender moved to Elland Road in January 2023 from RB Salzburg amid the club’s fight for Premier League survival. The West Yorkshire outfit spent £11million on the centre-back but his time at the club did not go to plan. Wober made just 19 appearances for the Whites as the team were relegated from the top flight.

Furthermore, when Leeds brought him into English football, a relegation clause was inserted into his contract which prohibited Wober from playing below the Premier League should the club be relegated back to the Championship, which just happened.

As a result, the centre-back was sent to German side Borussia Monchengladbach for a season, where he made 27 appearances for the club as they battled relegation to the Bundesliga. However, Wober has since returned to Daniel Farke’s side after his loan spell with Die Fohlen expired.

The Leeds United star has been mentioned in talks amid the £21m deal

However, Leeds United have no plans for the 26-year-old ahead of the 2024/25 campaign. Journalist Florian Plettenberg revealed that the English side are open to selling Wober this summer and are looking for between £8.5m and £10.2m. In addition, Plettenberg reported that Monchengladbach are keen to take him back for next season, but only on another loan deal, and that Wober himself has been informed of the position by the club.

The writer’s vision

Wober still has three years left on his current deal at Leeds United, meaning another loan deal is viable for the club, although this time they may include a buyout clause that would force the Monchengladbach to buy him permanently at the end of it. the season

The Austrian defender boasts a market value of £8.5m, so Leeds’ asking price is more than fair, especially given the time left on his contract stay at Elland Road. The Yorkshire club are likely to be off the books by the time the transfer window closes next month.
