London’s airport which has just been named one of the best in the whole of Europe

Luton Airport was named one of the best in Europe at the Airport Council International European 2024 awards. Heathrow Airport was also highly rated in the over 40 million passengers category.

The airport was the winner of its category (10-25 million passengers) and was the only UK airport to win at the event which took place in Istanbul yesterday.




Luton Airport was up against Spain’s Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport and Belgium’s Brussels Airport, which were also shortlisted for the category.

The airport celebrated on its X account, formerly known as Twitter, saying: “We are absolutely delighted to have been named European Airport of the Year (10-25 million passengers) at the prestigious ACI EUROPE Best Airport 2024 awards. Well done team !”

The judges were particularly impressed by the infrastructure improvements at the airport, including new shops, lounges and an electrified express rail service.

They also said that the adaptability of airports helped them reach level 4 of Airport Carbon Accreditation program with a net zero goal by 2040.
