Britain’s revolutionary ‘super fast charging’ electric car Nyobolt hits the road

British engineering and technology company Nyobolt’s revolutionary sports car concept has hit the road for the first time, marking the moment when charging an electric car can be as easy as filling a tank of petrol. The ultra-fast charging electric vehicle, whose appearance is inspired by the iconic Lotus Elise, has 470 hp. Designed by Julian Thomson, the same visionary behind the original Elise, the new prototype serves as a testbed for Nyobolt’s next-generation battery technology, which promises to revolutionize the EV range, charging times and longevity. Initial tests this month with the rolling prototype showed impressive results. The car’s 35kWh battery can be charged from 10% to 80% using a 350kW charger in just 4 minutes and 37 seconds, twice the speed of most of today’s fastest charging vehicles. Importantly, it also means drivers will be able to charge their car in not much more than they can fill a tank. You could plug in your car, grab a sandwich and a bag of chips, and by the time you finish them your car will be fully charged! The battery has successfully undergone 4000 full fast charge cycles, which equates to approximately 600,000 miles, while retaining over 80% of its capacity. Weighing just 1246kg, it’s comparable in weight to a Renault Clio, thanks to its compact and efficient battery, meaning it’s much lighter than most electric cars. Production of Nyobolt’s scalable batteries is set to begin with low volume production this year, with plans to ramp up to 1,000 batteries next year and eventually reach 2 million units annually.
