Leeds United attacking midfielder Brenden Aaronson saw his USMNT stint cut short by a poor Copa America group stage exit confirmed by defeat to Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay.

The Whites returned to pre-season training this week with Daniel Farke no doubt eager to get going in pursuit of promotion from the Championship.

His squad is already undergoing change with the departure of Archie Gray, but where that door closed, he opened one for Brenden Aaronson following his 23/24 loan spell.

Brenden Aaronson is returning to Leeds this summer after his loan spell at Union Berlin

YEP reported in early June that Leeds expected to have Aaronson back at the club after his spell with Union Berlin ended.

Aaronson himself confirmed this, stressing his excitement to return to work at Elland Road under Farke, with whom he shared encouraging conversations.

This comes on the back of using a loan clause to controversially leave the club after relegation, then struggling for consistency in the Bundesliga despite a strong end to the season when he ended his goal and drought drought to help the team avoid relegation.

Happy to have Aaronson back?

Marcelo Bielsa terminated Aaronson’s service with the USMNT, the previous season’s return due

Aaronson and the USMNT went into their final Copa America group stage match this week knowing they had to match Panama’s result to advance.

However, they faced Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay, who are looking for a third consecutive group win, and a 1-0 win by the former Leeds manager sent the USA into third place and elimination, while that Panama beat Bolivia 3-1.

Aaronson collected just four minutes in the three games the USMNT played and his involvement ends with Leeds now awaiting the player’s return later in July.

The USA’s progress in the knockout stages would have put Aaronson in doubt for the German tour, but now, after a period off, it is his turn to return to Thorp Arch sooner than expected.
